Reflection 1 : Three Stages of CALL
Assalamualaikum w.b.t and hello readers :)
Most of the BENL courses that we have taken required us to engage and apply the computer applications in order to complete the tasks given. Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) is very significant in our course. Thus, every student needs to be competent in using computer as CALL plays vital role in all subjects. For example, Topics in Islamic Literature subject is one of many subjects that uses CALL in its assessments. We had an interview assignment that required us to use computer as our tool in order to complete the task given. Our inputs for the assignment must be goal-oriented, purpose-drive, well-organized, and in good sequence. Therefore, consultation with lecturer is important and it was done through e-mail where we had exchanged a few e-mails with our lecturer regarding his responses and opinions on the topic selection, interview questions, drafts and until its end product which is a report.
Apart from that, information were thoroughly searched and revised with the help of Google on the internet. This is where Integrative CALL Approach takes place as databases are surfed in collecting information, interactions are mainly done via network and word processors (Microsoft Word) are highly in use especially when transcribing and editing the interview assignment. Moreover, content-based method is supported in this approach.
Lastly, we were required to post our interview report on our Facebook account once our lecturer has revised and approved it. This can be considered as a part of Communicative CALL Approach because this task of posting our report on Facebook had never been assigned to us before, hence, by completing this assignment we were opened to discovery learning which Communicative CALL Approach encouraged. In addition, the aim of this assignment was to let people know the issues and struggles in Muslim countries thus promoting the learner-centered approach to people.
